Interview with Founder and Chairman Hisashi TSUBOI

Where were you born?

I was born in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture.
I am the youngest of six brothers.

What were you like as a child?

I was just fishing in the Tenryu River almost everyday. I caught lots of wild eels.
Therefore, I didn’t study hard at all.

When did you move to Tokyo?

I was born to a poor farm family.
For that reason, in 1955 when I was 15 years old, I started working for a tsukudani shop
in Nihonbashi as an apprentice. In Tokyo, everything was new and exciting.
After that, I changed jobs severa times.
When I worked at a furniture store in Nishi-azabu, I started studying electricity at school while working.

How did you start your company?

After studying electricity at school, I joined Nakano Reiki.
A few years later, we six young employees got independent as repair and maintenance workers.
Luckily, we were backed up by our parent company.
From my earlier years, I had high entrepreneurial spirit.

Can you tell us any interesting stories you experienced when you started a business?

I was given the Saitama area by accidnet as my business territory.
I was lucky in that I was allocated some 200 customers of supermarkets and shops.
To achieve good results, I worked frantically.
To my surprise, I earned several times more than before. Honestly, it was frightening.

How did you start your first company?

I started my company with five staff in Oe, Kasukabe.
After I moved to Saitama, I sold my land for a high price. How lucky I was.

Please tell us about your trip to the USA.

I visited the USA countless times to participate in field trips for major machine factories.
To my surprise, machines, cars, etc., everything in the USA was an order of magnitude greater.
On every trip, I bought miniature cars for my son.
This is why my son is now crazy about real cars.

Business succession to your son

On the occasion of business transfer to my son, I only said Good Luck to him.
I didn’t teach him even how to make cost estimates.
He studied everything on his own and succeeded in boosting sales further.

What are your favorite mottos?

Rome wasn’t built in a day.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
These are my favorite mottos.

Thank you very much
for your interesting stories.
